The Church of Santo Tomas de Villanueva in the town of Miagao,Iloilo is part of the UNESCO World Heritage sites. It is one of the Philippines architectural and religious price relics. Built between 1787 and 1797,it was used both as a place of worship and as a fortress to defend the town against moro raiders.
The original Church was destroyed in the 1898 Revolution but was rebuilt soon thereafter. In 1910 it was damaged by fire and then by earthquake in 1948. In 1960 it was restored to the beautiful piece of art that it is still today.
HOW TO GET THERE:
There are daily flights from Manila to Iloilo City or Bacolod City. Miagao is a 45 minutes drive from Iloilo City.
