Anghalo Falls   (San Felipe, Zambales, Luzon)

From Macolcol bridge during heavy rains, you can see a cascade of water at the base below the summit of Mt. Kimmalogong.  This is known to the indigenous people as the Ang-halo Falls, which flows into a natural pool carved into the rock known locally as  Lubong-Uneg literally meaning "inner world" or "inner bowl".   There is a 20 ft deep swimming hole at the top of the falls, marked by the "Tugot ni Ang-halo" or "Mark of Ang-halo". Ancient legend has it that the giant Ang-halo knelt down to take a drink of water above the waterfalls and left the imprint of his toes, knee, and hand in the bedrock thus creating the formation for a pool of water. Downstream from the Lubong-Uneg is a river called the Lubong which feeds the the rice fields at the foot of Karampoan Hill. During dry spells, the waterfall contracts into a trickle and can no longer be viewed from the Macolcol Bridge. The best time then to visit the waterfall is during the wet months usually from June to August.

How to get there:

From Metro Manila,Zambales Province is a two to three hour air conditioned Victory Liner bus trip, leaving from the main northern bus station in Caloocan City or from the southern station in Pasay City.  The buses leave from Manila roughly every hour on the hour from 06:00am to midnight. Take the bus marked Olongapo City.

From Olongapo, buses ply the coastal highway leading to Santa Cruz at the northernmost tip of Zambales.  San Felipe is the sixth town from Olongapo, right after San Narciso. Glimpses of the China Sea may be seen on the left along the way.
