Spanning 39 kilometers,the Silway River is one of the two main headwaters of the Silway Watershed in the Municipalities of T'boli and Polomolok in South Cotabato.
The watershed covers an area of more than 9,000 hectares. Its headwaters --Silway and Klinan -- meander from the slopes of Mt. Parker and flow to the Polomolok and Salal Creeks and the Matin-ao River.
Used mainly for agricultural and recreational purposes,the watershed through the Silway River Dam discharges 10,700 litres per second enough to irrigate farm and pasture lands in Barangays Balauan,Lagao,Katangawan and San Isidro,and spring waters in Polomolok and General Santos City.
The watershed is servicing 1,020 hectares of farmlands benefiting 575 households.
HOW TO GET THERE:
It takes about an hour to reach General Santos City,which boasts of seaports and an airport having international capabilities. South Cotabato's capital town is approximately 59 kilometers from General Santos City; travel time is approximately one hour by bus or public utility vehicle. Travel time from the other two entry points,Kidapawan and Cotabato city,varies from 1.5 to 2.5 hours by bus or public utility vehicle.
